After having been forced to let my car sit for 30 days in salty Baltic Sea air, all I can report is that it started right up as if nothing had happened. First crank. Clarkson was right in saying that these old Hondas are “as reliable as a wood burning stove”. In case anyone wonders why I let it sit for 30 days:

Now that you mention Jeremy Clarkson, he made an old Top Gear review of your generation Honda Accord:

Nice car. Those wheels look very similar to the 4th gen Prelude SE wheels. (My rear ones are on the wrong side, thanks to directional tires...)

Well, let’s say he made an attempt at reviewing it and then, in true Clarkson fashion, ended up hooning a Type-R.

30 days is nothing! I started my ‘88 205 GTI last week for the first time in half a year. It needed a bit of cranking, but when it started it ran like a charm. The times I started it afterwards it started immidiately. I started my ‘87 205 CTI for the first time in also half a year yesterday, and that too (despite previously known engine problems) started right up.
Both were parked inside though, and I had taken the batteries out and kept them charged in my home.
The Honda Prelude we wanted to use for the carbagerun, which hadn’t run in 7 years or so, needed a lot more motivation though.

Oh yes, the Preludes. What happened with them? Your brother in law wanted to restore the better one, if I remember correctly?

You remember correctly. The worse one, the only one with an engine inside the car, was beyond (realistic) saving from a TÜV point of view. Rust, rust everywhere! So we gave up and bought the Mitsubishi. Both Hondas remain in his garage, waiting for better days.
